Booragoon JFC follows the AFL Management of Concussion in Australian Football guidelines for dealing with instances of suspected or actual concussion. Some key documents from the AFL are:
- Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool (CRT) – to help identify concussion in children, youth and adults
- Concussion Management Booklet – AFL position statement on the management of concussion in Australian Football. The guidelines should be adhered to at all times
- Junior Club Manual (9Mb PDF) – Policies and By Laws for WA Junior Football
As per the AFL Guidelines and the Junior Club Manual, any player showing the signs or symptoms of concussion should be removed from the field immediately and referred to a medical practitioner.
A concussed player must not return to school, training or playing before having a formal medical clearance. As per By-Law 23.1.4 “a player who in the opinion of an appropriate medical authority has suffered concussion, should not play the following week“.
A signed medical clearance will be required before the player can train or play again (NO EXCEPTIONS).
Names of all players suspected of concussion are to be advised to registrar@booragoonbulldogs.com.au.
