What a great season!! It has been so fulfilling to see the boys grow in confidence, improve skills and show great commitment throughout the year.

This Year we had 25 boys registered and decided to run one large Team rather than to split in two.

The challenge in doing so was ensuing the boys had sufficient game time whilst adopting a strict rotation policy. To this end I sincerely thank the Boys for their patience over the season when their turn came to sit on the bench or play for the opposition side.

We are lucky to have a core group of players who have been together since Auskick and this year welcomed new recruits Robbie Glazier, Kobe McManus & Oakleigh Robbins, all of who have been great acquisitions.

To the boys who played up in the Year 6 sides (Beau Allanson, Daniel Jackson, Kobe McManus, Harrison Grattidge, Joseph Kelly, Gibson Castley, Jack Watters, Tom Mulroney, Ty Landsborough, Lucas Walsh and Cameron Geaney), well done for accepting the challenge and grasping the opportunity with both hands.

As the season progressed, the skills, attack on the ball, overhead marking, leading and working to find space to create opportunities improved and by the end the Boys commitment at training started to pay off.

This year there were some great contests which certainly tested the skills and courage of the boys.

Without a doubt we are looking at some extremely talented young players that will certainly be future rising stars. It was so pleasing to watch the Group gel and listen to some heartfelt renditions of the Mighty Bulldogs Club Song after a great …..draw.

The kids have been a pleasure to coach & are a wonderful reflection on their parents. Watching them grow, develop and try to put in place what we have taught them has been enormously satisfying and fulfilling.

To all the parents, thank you for bringing the kids down to each training session and game day, helping out with the canteen, time keeper, oranges and goal umpiring duties when called upon, it was greatly appreciated.

I would like to make a special mention to the following;

  • Karen Ganza and Jade Mulroney for their tireless work as Team Managers
  • Lynn Grattidge, Amanda Richards & Emma Walsh for First Aid duties
  • John Watters as Team Runner and delivery of clear messaging
  • Dick Power & Greg Collins as game day / warm up assistants and
  • Angus Castley as Assistant Coach

The success of our side is no doubt due to the skilled group of boys we have but also the off field commitment cannot be underestimated. It certainly makes my job as Coach easy.

Finally thanks to Anthony Doig & the Committee for giving me the opportunity to coach a great bunch of boys and running a well oiled operation this year. To the stars of the show the Year 5 Bulldogs, Well done on another fantastic season – you should all be very proud of what you have been able to achieve as individuals.

Remember to keep the footy close by during summer and look forward to seeing all the boys and a couple of mates next year.

Go Bulldogs!!!

The Year 4 Reds brought together a great bunch of young men that we believe sing the club song louder and more passionately than any other in our club!

Our team focus this year was to improve our clearances by getting low to the ground, taking our marks and leading up to the kicker. Every player in our team showed significantly improvement in these areas and towards the latter half of the season we played some wonderful and exciting football.

Some of the highlights for our team was the amazing courage that so many of our players showed regardless of their size or their opposition. Our tackling pressure and strength was fantastic and generally if we got that right then our overall performance was excellent.

We had some very strong players that had many great moments of contested marking, 30+ metre kicking, 30+ possessions and dashing runs off the half back line and we are sure that several will become high level players of the future. But we got more enjoyment and satisfaction from the development and confidence of the players that did not have the same skills or had joined us for the first time after playing another sport.

Well done boy and we look forward to next year.

I have again had the pleasure of coaching the year 4 Blues for the 2015 season.

Thankfully after a number of years in the Auskick and Super 8 system, the boys finally had an opportunity to play against opposition teams from the local East Fremantle district on a weekly basis.
We had 17 boys enrolled for our Blue team, all from a variety of schools from around the local area.

Over the course of the year we played on a home and away basis and included a weekly training session on Wednesday night. Their improvement throughout the year was fantastic, to me their teamwork, competitiveness and skill improvement stood out.

Special comments for our players are:

  • Harry: Our best tackler for the year, provided a lot of run and loved to compete
  • Strahany: Stood tall in the forward line numerous times, taking strong marks and kicking some good long goals
  • Jordie: Fantastic season, running hard and kicking the ball off both feet, a great team player……great year Jordie
  • Skep: A beautiful left foot kick whose marking improved thoughout the year….keep practising your snaps Haz
  • Dalton: The quickest of our boys who loved to get in there and attack the ball, showed great improvement as the year progressed.
  • Rossy: Great improver throughout the year, when he played in front he was unstoppable ! A great listener which is so important.
  • Jack: Continued to improve as the season went on – a ruckman in the making who loves to snap at goal ! Keep working hard Jack.
  • Big George: Smallest on our team but had the biggest heart, loved to get in and get a kick plus not scared to tackle anyone.
  • Matty: Found a niche in the back line and continued to improve…..began to attack the ball and dispose of with quick hands, great to watch mate.
  • Thorfy: Loved the forward line, and kicked some great goals late in the season, laid some fantastic hard tackles, keep working at it Thorf.
  • Kyle: Beautiful passer of the ball by hand and foot, a very solid contributor who kicked some great goals
  • Tommy: Loved to attack the ball and play in front, kicking showed great improvement as the year progressed, great season Tommy.
  • Douggy: The master of the quick handpass who showed some genuine pace, great improvement throughout the year, well done Douggy
  • Jimmy: Loves to run, compete, bounce, kick and play footy, a fantastic year Jimmy.
  • Foggy: Played majority of games, however finished early for health reasons, improved throughout the year and most of all was very keen to listen and learn, well done Foggy.
  • Hespy: Hard running forward with great skills who gave 100% every week, a pleasure to coach, well done Hespy.
  • Big Hayds: As the season progressed so did big Hayd ’s, beautiful big long kick, keep going Hayds.
  • To all the parents a huge thank-you for bringing the boys down to each training session and game day, providing oranges, goal umpriring and timekeeping. Special mention to Dennis Brestovac, Jeremy Skepper and Pete Collins who helped out throughout the year at training.

Special thanks to Leslie Eddy, our manager, who volunteered and did a great job organising rosters, pizza nights, correspondence, game day sheets etc. A tough job which you made look easy …..cheers.

Last thanks is to Mick Strahan who pretty much coached the boys alongside me all year…..massive effort at training and on game day, plus while I was away –thanks mate.

Overall it has been a very successful season and also very rewarding as a coach to see the improvement in the players.

We hope to see you all again next year.

Go the Bulldogs !

It was great to see a lot of familiar faces back this year, plus some new ones. Right from the start you could see the boys had been either practicing or watching the big boys on TV and were keen try some new tricks out on the paddock.

Unfortunately Ollie ‘hand out don’t argue’ Kelly had to pull out mid-season with a bad back. However, we welcomed Byron Johnstone to the team, midway through the season.
The team was continually evolving with different players stepping up, showing off some new skill or just having belief in themselves and teammates. After a slow start adjusting to the new tackling in Year 4, they really stepped up the tackling pressure mid-season. Some of the other highlights on display included some great running, leading to space, kicking, handballing and general team work.

One of the weekly traditions the lads embraced was the team song, well sung after each match, with the opportunity to squirt the captain of the day enthusiastically anticipated and carried out.
Huge thanks goes to everyone who helped out during the season. Coaching was made that much easier when you have a great team helping out off the field. Team Manager Wendy Clynk, emails, paperwork, ground report, rosters, team sheets, just to name a few of the tasks Wendy successfully navigated each week. Assistant Coach Mike North, training, player rotation, tactics and pep talks. Parents, Year 4 White’s have a wonderful group supporting their kids and the team. Everyone pitched in with the little extras that often go unnoticed: timekeeping, goal umpire, first aid, canteen, ground setup, bbq, training and the all-important oranges.

Thanks also to the other Year 4 coaches and parents, from the Blue and Red teams, who helped make Wednesday night trainings enjoyable, not only for the young kids but some of the ‘big’ kids reminiscing about their footy and goal kicking prowess.

Look forward to seeing you all next year. Go the Bulldogs!!

What a fantastic season!! We have watched this group grow and develop over the season into a formidable team willing to take on taller teams with relentless energy and enthusiasm. The kids all adapted quickly to the transition from Auskick style of play into junior football and relished in the opportunities of open play footy.
We entered the season with 16 aspiring young footballers, a simple game plan and have taken a huge step forward in understanding how the game is played, how to get the most enjoyment out of each game and how to work together as a team to achieve success.

The latter half of the season has seen significant improvement from all kids who have been putting on some spectacular displays of team footy. This rapid advancement has enabled us to expand our game plan and challenge ourselves to improve each week. Well done and congratulations to all the players, you have been a fantastic bunch to coach and we hope to see you all back next year.
I hope the parents have enjoyed watching the kids grow and develop over the season as much as I have and would like to thank you all for your support, assistance at training and game days and most importantly, bringing your kids to footy each and every week. Thank you. I believe the parents have bragging rights from the kids vs parents scratch match, albeit by a couple of points on the siren.

A special mention to Ryan Budge, our team photographer. You have taken some magnificent photos over the season and I would like to thank you for capturing this and sharing with us.
Thank you Blair Marley, our assistant coach. You have been a great help throughout the season from taking small groups at training, warm ups before the game, time keeping, changing the board, and helping set up and pack away. I know the kids have enjoyed having you there every week. Your focus and commitment to the team was much appreciated by both Craig and I and we hope you have enjoyed the experience and learnt more about footy on and off the field.

A big thanks to Andrea and Ryan Manason, our team managers. You both have done a fantastic job in your first season and I hope you have enjoyed the journey so far. Nothing was ever too much trouble and I hope to see you both back again next year, particularly Ryan after setting the dress standard for the kids vs parents match!!

Finally, a massive thanks to Coach Craig Nelson. Your support, ideas and enthusiasm have been fantastic this year. Without your support, the achievements our kids made this year would not have been possible. I have enjoyed coaching with you and look forward to the next season and beyond standing beside you. Thank you.

I hope everyone involved with the Mighty Super 8 Blue team have enjoyed the season and I hope to see you all again next year.

2015 was a big year for the Super 8s. Two teams were fielded this year and myself along with assistant coach Mike Allen had the privilege of coaching the White team.

There were a number of firsts this year with the boys playing weekly home and away matches against the other footy clubs in the East Fremantle district, using the size 2 ball for the first time and the wrap around tackle. Both teams trained on Wednesday afternoons for an hour with the boys honing their footy skills and game knowledge.

The home and away season saw us travelling to a number of different venues and with the quality of the games getting better and better as the season progressed, the uplift in both skill level and confidence from the boys was a joy to watch. We also had a wonderful parent group who were loud and proud with much encouragement from the sidelines while always ensuring the opposition players got their fair share of praise for great play. Parents taking the lead with sportsmanship like this was great to see and sent a great message to the kids.

Special Thank you must go out to Andrew Auret – team manager, Marty Savage – goal umpire and Brad Beitmamas – enthusiasm coach, and to all the parents for ensuring their kids made it to training and for the encouragement and support they provided to the boys on game day.

A great season was had by all and we look forward to all the boys returning for a big 2016.

Well Team we’ve made it through another season! On behalf of Lleyton, Ben & I, thanks; we had a blast. We hope you all improved your ball skills, leant something about football, liked the teamwork, but most of all we hope you had some fun.

Throughout the year we focused on;
• Being accurate with disposals
• Kicking both short & long (at goal)
• Handballing
• Marking both chest & overhead
• Being first to the ball
• Agility and running into space
• Teamwork
• Positions on the field and picking up the opposition

I’m sure everyone will agree that all of the boys have improved, and are playing with great teamwork. The handball and run out of defence has been a highlight!

During the year we played against Piara Waters; one team at home & one team away. It was great to see & hear about the teamwork; run out defensive, a string of handballs, a couple of great shots on goal, and some big marks. For the record both teams won, and I think a few parents were surprised with how well the boys played.

To the parents; thanks, obviously things just don’t happen without people getting involved, so from helping set up, clean-up, team jumpers, kitchen rosters etc., simply thanks. Each weekend could not have run without your involvement. As coaches we enjoy every Sunday morning, and I’d encourage you to get out in the backyard or park, and keep kicking, handballing, marking, or just walking & talking with the boys. They are a great bunch, and its privilege to coach them.

Finally, to my little mates Lleyton & Ben; you’re both champs. Lleyton brings the fun factor and enthusiasm, while Ben’s the quite achiever; thanks guys.

Over forty kids signed on for year 1 Auskick at Booragoon Junior Football club in 2015. It was great to welcome back so many familiar faces as well as to welcome some new additions to the squad. Tim and I were also lucky enough to be joined by Matt and Simon in the coaching box. Both guys bought new ideas and enthusiasm to the mix so thanks for that. Liz also signed on for another year as team manager, a huge thanks to her for all her efforts over the season.

We had another fantastic year at Auskick with some really enthusiastic kids backed up by some willing parents who always happy to get involved and help out. The kids skills really came along this season and the coaches were all able to share some great moments with the kids as the skills started to click. A highlight for me was one young fellow who discovered that you don’t have to kick with the right foot, for some of us the left foot is much better. Apart from the goal kicking displays every week at the North end of the ground for the assembled parent’s enjoyment, I think that the favourite skills activity this year was the tackle bag and “specie” pad work that coach Tim introduced towards the end of the season.

As the skills developed so too did the quality of the Auskick matches, though fortunately there were no specie marks and/or victims this year. Instead we were able to see the kids starting to handball and kick pass with purpose and beginning to learn about moving into space on the field. Those skills were put into action at the Rossmoyne Carnival this year in which we were able to field two teams that played with great spirit and skill. So well done to all the kids for the hard work over the year to improve their AFL skills.

A final thanks to all the parents who got involved on the day and who practiced with their kids during the week. The joy that the kids get from playing with Mum or Dad always catches me by surprise, even with my older son, so keep it up over the summer and we will see you all back in 2016 for Year 2 Auskick.

We had 56 Pre Primary Auskickers this year which was a great turn out! The Pre Primary Auskickers improved significantly over the year. We really focussed on skills and teamwork this year and it was great to see sharing of the ball and great comradely within the team.

On behalf of the coaches I would like to thank all of those who helped out with the sessions particularly our team Manager Scott Green who kept us all organised. The Pre Primary Auskickers have been a delight to coach and we look forward to seeing them all next year as they grow towards their destiny as superstars of the AFL.
